The Pittsburgh Penguins (Founded in 1967)
The Pittsburgh Penguins professional ice hockey team came to the Steel City in 1967. They were part of the National Hockey League's original expansion from six to twelve teams. The team is owned by former Penguins player Mario Lemieux. The team has won the league championship, the Stanley Cup, three times in 1991, 1992 and 2009.
For the first 42 years that the Penguins played in Pittsburgh, they did so in Civic Arena. In 2010 the organization moved into the brand new Consol Energy Center across the street from the old arena.
The organization is committed to excellence not only on the ice, but in the community as well.

Kim Wood & Abass B. Kamara - My Mentors
I'm very lucky to have two outstanding people to mentor me during my time with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Both Kim and Abass have been a huge help in getting me acclimated to my new surroundings. Most importantly they have given me an opportunity to show what I can do. Here is a brief bio of Kim and Abass...
Abass B. Kamara – Originally from Pittsburgh, and a lifetime Penguins fan, Abass matriculated to Cornell University where his studies focused on government. After graduating, Abass got his start in electoral politics. In 2003 he became an aid to Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell. After five years of service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Abass assumed a position with the Pittsburgh Penguins. As Director of Government Affairs, Abass is one of the many public faces of the organization and represents the franchise in many capacities. Specifically he helps Penguins CEO David Morehouse and COO Travis Williams manage outreach to elected officials. The majority of his efforts are centered around the 28 Acre development project and various interactions with the Hill District.

Kim Wood – Also originally from Pittsburgh. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she studied Computer Science, Kim got her start at the law firm of Burns & White where she was the Diversity Coordinator. She joined the Penguins as the Executive Assistant to CEO/President David Morehouse in 2007. In 2011 she became the Director of Outreach. Kim has been a resident of the Hill District almost all of her life and now helps the Penguins serve that community through various initiatives. Kim also helps develop and maintain relationships with community leaders and foster the Penguins brand throughout Pittsburgh.
