Here is some video of the Civic Arena, the old home of the Pittsburgh Penguins that is directly across the street from the new Consol Energy Center, being demolished.  The old arena is scheduled to be completely removed by the end of May.  Clearly this structure paves the way (literally) for new development of the site.  The Pittsburgh Penguins have the development rights to this land as part of the agreement with the city of Pittsburgh to build the new arena.  It is hoped and expected that the new residential, commercial and retail locations that will go up on this site will become a major economic benefit for the surrounding community and the city.    Here's an article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette discussing the demolition.
